Future Career as a Nurse
When I was 4 years old, I was diagnosed with Leukemia. I want to become a pediatric oncology nurse because I know exactly what kids like me are going through. I want to be able to help them as much as I can because when I was sick, I feel like the nurses were the ones that helped me the most. I've received lots of guidance from faculty in the Department of Nursing as well as course material that I will be able to apply in my clinicals. I know that I'm on the right path as a nursing student at Mount Union.
Overcoming Obstacles
I was the only girl on my wrestling team for the first 3 years of my athletic career. I was told I shouldn't be wrestling because I'm a girl and my teammates excluded me most of the time. I made it to state my freshman and sophomore year, but I didn't get any recognition from my school. I then put together our girls' wrestling team my junior year of high school and taught all the girls everything they needed to know, and I still didn't get any recognition. The coaches paid more attention to the other girls, so I worked as hard as possible to continue enhancing my wrestling career, and had to advocate for myself.
Impactful Faculty Member at Mount Union
My coach, Clay Wenger has helped me tremendously to become the wrestler I have become here at UMU. I have grown a lot as a wrestler and individual -- I have learned to take more chances and trust the process. I have accomplished more here, than I ever did during my high school wrestling career. He, alongside my teammates have made my short time here meaningful because I feel welcomed and at home.
